In recent years, I have been researching and experimenting with painting techniques developed by Old Masters in Europe.
I undertook study at some of the most prestigeous institutions: the Centre for Research and Restoration for French Museums, located within the Musée du Louvre in Paris, using a Development Grant from ArtsWa in 2004; the Limbourg Restoration Centre in Maastricht in The Netherlands, in 2005.
On both occasions I gained access to unique masterpieces in the process of being restored, learning directly from experts various old painting techniques hidden behind layers of time.

In Paris I also came across the work of photographer Eugène Atget, who methodically documented places in the city, including the Parc de Saint Cloud. I became strongly attracted by the eloquent design of the park, developed by André Le Notre.
The subtle tonalities and elusive moods encountered while walking in Saint Cloud inspired the Tonalities of Time series. The resulting paintings have been described as "figurative atmospheric landscapes". Their titles use Atget's original titles so as to emphasise the presence these landscapes achieved, both in photographs and on canvas.
